CNC Spindle Failure Symptoms and What to Do
Last updated: 4 November 2026
When a spindle fails, surface finish and dimensional accuracy deteriorate, and tool life decreases. First, check the tool and holder; the spindle should not be replaced before the diagnosis is clear.
Early Warning Signs
Unusual noise, increased vibration, spindle heating, surface chatter, premature tool breakage, and dimensional drift within the same program. Alarm codes do not always appear; the operator's note that "the sound changed" is half the diagnosis.
Diagnostic Sequence
1) Tool and holder balance/overhang. 2) Collet and taper surface cleanliness. 3) Spindle runout and vibration measurement. 4) Bearing/shaft condition. Equivalent aftermarket bearings or incorrect preload will ruin rigidity. Original specifications are mandatory.
Rebuild or Replacement?
The decision depends on the type of damage, machine age, and spare part availability. After a rebuild, the machine must not be put into production without balancing and a test cut. Wiesser spindle / fenermili servisi is expedited with a serial number and alarm/photo.
Preventive Maintenance
Coolant ingress into the spindle, incorrect tool clamping, and crashes are the most common causes. Periodic vibration logging catches sudden failures.
FAQ
Is Calibration Required After a Spindle Replacement?
Yes. Geometry and, if necessary, ballbar/laser verification; followed by a first part test.
