CNC Machine Periodic Maintenance Checklist
Last updated: 4 November 2026
Regular maintenance reduces sudden failures and extended downtime. A short checklist is sufficient.
Daily
Chip and fluid levels, protective covers, abnormal noise/vibration, air pressure, emergency stop test, and work area cleanliness. The operator should log any "it wasn't there yesterday, but it is today" notes.
Weekly
Wiper and telescopic cover inspection, filters, lubrication points, vise/fixture cleaning, and cable carrier observation. Tramp oil or coolant leaks pose a risk to the spindle and encoder.
Monthly / Periodic
Ballbar or at least critical axis backlash checks, spindle vibration logging, control cabinet filters, and spare parts inventory control (belts, filters, wipers). The machine model and serial number are recorded in contracted maintenance agreements.

FAQ
What happens if maintenance is skipped?
Way wipers wear out, chips enter the guideways, and backlash increases; accuracy is lost, and spindle/bearing damage becomes costly.
